INNOVATING THE BUSINESS MODEL OF RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS
Business Design Center applies a novel way of organizing the interaction between research institutions, companies and society. We call this New Research Management. Our mission is to impact the way in which research institutions are organized and managed.
The individual management and organizational structures and techniques applied in BDC do not by themselves constitute groundbreaking methodologies - but in their combination, they provide a unique contribution to the innovation of both BDC’s business model and the business model of research institutions in general.
BDC has taken initiative to study how different research institutions can improve their return on investment in interaction with organizations and society. For this purpose, an international team of researchers has been assembled with particular interest in developing the organization of research institutions, universities and research infrastructures. The team’s role is to capture the characteristics of the triple-helix movement, and to follow BDC as an experiment in research management by addressing dysfunctionalities, problems and potentials with such ambitions.
The vision of BDC is to have the largest empirical database of mapped business models in the world. Further it is to have the strongest connections with industry to ensure access to data as well as ensuring relevance to practice.
